S is for Spring: Simple Spring Wreath
Spring is such a beautiful time of year. I love how the trees and the earth start to wake up and bloom into so many beautiful shades of green. The flowering trees and bulbs are breathtaking after the long, grey months of winter. After I packed up the Easter decorations this year, my entry way was begging for a bright splash of spring. I headed off to the local craft store to see what I could come up with and the result was this simple spring wreath. The supplies were very inexpensive and it came together in just a few minutes.
Supplies
Grapevine wreath – this one is 18″ wide and cost $4.99 (then I used a 40% coupon, of course!)
6-10 stems of faux flowers – the choices are unlimited! Everything I bought was on sale or as low as $.99 or $1.29 a stem. The dollar store can have some decent faux flowers as well.
Heavy duty scissors or wire cutters
Directions
I like to start by placing my wreath flat on the floor or table. Think about a style you are drawn to or browse Pinterest for inspiration. Start cutting your flowers apart into pieces small enough to just tuck into the grapevine. Don’t forget to use the leaves too for added greenery. After I get the bulk of my flowers placed into a design I am happy with, I like to then hang it on the wall for the fine tuning. Once the wreath is hanging, you can step back from it to look for areas that look skimpy or need adjusting. That’s it! No glue or wiring – I just simply tucked the stems into the grapevine wreath.
I really love working with grapevine wreaths as they are quite forgiving. In fact, my first attempt at this wreath used some larger flowers as well to create a pattern of flowers around the entire wreath. I studied it on the wall over the course of a few days, but it just didn’t have the look I was hoping for. So I started over again! It was simple to carefully pull them stems out and rearrange. I was much happier with this second attempt.
Think about what you have around the house that you can use in your wreath too. Ribbons, garlands, small birds or bird nests, twigs, grasses or silk butterflies could all be nice additions to a spring wreath.
I hope you are inspired to create your own touch of spring. Enjoy those beautiful spring flowers no matter if they are inside or outside. Happy crafting, friends!
